Sto. Niño feast brings joy to the little ones
by Jasmin Santos
HUNDREDS OF children flocked at the sanctuary of the parish church in St. Anne, Magarao to receive God’s blessings during the Eucharistic celebrations on the Feast of Santo Niño last January 21, 2007.
Celebrated every third Sunday of January, the feast of Santo Niño becomes a celebration for the children. In Magarao, during the 7:30am Mass at the parish church, the children were blest and received gifts of toys and food collected and distributed by the Mother Butlers’ Guild (MBG) and the Catholic Womens’ League (CWL). MBG & CWL sponsored novenary masses last Jan. 12 to 20, and gathered five children from each barangay and sitio to be given gifts. They distributed more than 200 packs and pieces of toys to the children.
The children were glad and happy to be blest by the priest and to receive gifts. “Maogma po na matawanan nin kawatan saka kakanon. Nawaran akong kawatan kan nakaaging bagyo,” said one of the children. Also, during the blessing of the children, some parents brought their babies in front to be blest. One of the mothers said, “Magian an pagmate ko asin maogmang nagpapasalamat ta nabendisyonan an sakong aki.”
Mrs. Jean Federis and Mrs. Coleta Raña, presidents of MBG and CWL, respectively, both expressed their consoling joy and thankfulness for the success of the activity.
